Pregnancy Reads

I have read many blogs before conceiving and read bunch of books once I was pregnant. Here are few of my favorites.

Pregnancy Notes: Before, During & After by Rujuta Diwekar

This is the book which helped me prepare for pregnancy and post-partum. Pregnancy Notes has got you covered. Rujuta Diwekar takes you through the journey, with tips for even before you get pregnant, till after you deliver your bundle of joy. Each stage includes notes on food, exercise and recovery. Also included are heritage recipes from across the country, so you can mine the wisdom of our grandmothers. This is a must-have guide for every woman.

My Child won’t eat

Coming from a the culture where food is an emotion and the quantity of food we feed is measured as love, this book helped me to understand and not worry about how much my child is eating. My Child won’t eat helps to understand what and how much child needs and why shouldn’t we force-feed and respect their appetite. “Traditional Weaning starting solids India” group on facebook is support group which respects the child’s appetite and ease parents stress about the quantity of food child eats.

The Whole Brain Child

Understanding how the science of the brain interacts with the behavior of or the ability of a child to learn has led to my having more empathy for and understanding of my child. This helps in following gentle parenting.

The Montessori Toddler: A Parent’s Guide to Raising a Curious and Responsible Human Being

This is one of my favorite Montessori books. The book follows Maria Montessori’s principles of raising a free and responsible child by helping your toddler discover the world with all its wonders. Well-designed and clear, the book will be appreciated by new parents seeking practical guidance into how to implement Montessori principles at home.

The Secrets of Childhood

This book helps in understanding the children’s psychological needs and about their world.  It’s amazing to see how Maria Montessori deliberately and accurately addressed problems our schools still suffer from.

Keeping the list to minimal as I don’t want to overwhelm with huge list and these books are good to start with if you haven’t read any yet.
